No, there was no hidden meaning there. That statement was entirely superficial. As indeed was that one. And that one. And et cetera.

People may be reading the wrong things into my clue. Look at it again. What exactly does it say?

What kind of a game is it if you can't screw up horribly?

I wonder about the wording here. Grammatically speaking, Maruno phrased the clue perfectly. But rarely do people actually write it the way he did. Somehow, the concept has emerged that short independent clauses need not be separated by periods or semi-colons, but instead may be separated only by commas. Though I believe this is a monumentally flawed concept, it has become common practice. So I would've expected the "attack"s to be separated by a comma, rather than a period.

This suggests one of three things:

1) Maruno is detailed and smart.
2) Maruno was using an exact quote, or else a quote with only very minor modifications to the wording, but no changes to sentence structure.
3) I'm reading WAY, WAY, WWAAYY too much into the clue.
 
I'd guess option number 3 there. It's not a quote from anywhere else, at least, not intentionally. And I wouldn't say it's as cryptic and intelligent a clue as others have been.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: the answer is right there in the clue. It's only 5 words, so it should be easy. Here it is again:

Okay, I added the "Go, my pretties" to make it sound better than simply "Attack. ATTACK!". But technically just the last two words would suffice.
