YGO Card Reviews & Tips

This board is for everyone to put in their 2¢ in on cards. Please read the rules before posting.
Archlord Zerato (LIGHT/Fairy/8/2800/2300) This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except by offering 1 face-up "Warrior of Zera" on your side of the field as a Tribute while "The Sanctuary in the Sky" is on the field. If "The Sanctuary in the Sky" is on your side of the field, discard 1 LIGHT Monster Card from your hand to the Graveyard to destroy all monsters on your opponent's side of the field. Rulings If you chain "Mystical Space Typhoon" to "Archlord Zerato"'s effect and destroy "The Sanctuary in the Sky", "Archlord Zerato"'s effect disappears because "Archlord Zerato"'s effect needs "The Sanctuary in the Sky" on the field when the effect resolves...
Earth/Rock/5/1900/1000 This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except by Tributing 1 "Monk Fighter" on your side of the field. This card can attack twice during the same turn. Rulings 1. [Re: Lone Wolf] If your "Master Monk" targeted with "Lone Wolf" attacks and destroys "D.D. Assailant", "D.D. Assailant" is removed from play but "Master Monk" is not. Following Nomi week, we now take a look at the invigorated form of the Monk Fighter: Master Monk. Its the strongest monster out there that can attack twice on its own without it having to attack a monster first. Plus its a special summon which means you can swarm the field with these guys (with are not restricted by, the way) and...
Toon Table of Contents Normal Spell Add 1 card from your Deck to your hand that includes "Toon" in its card name, or is named "Manga Ryu-Ran". "¢ There are no published rulings for "Toon Table of Contents". Ah, Toon Table of Contents, the king of deck thinning. Running 3 of these, regardless of deck, makes you in essence run a 37 card deck, assuming you ran 40 at the beginning. It's also an incredible search card for Toons, or Manga Ryu-Ran, if you are so inclined. >_> This card comboes greatly with any card that requires a Spell Card as a discard, play 2 of them, each pulling the next, then discard the last one for the cost of that card. 's also great deck thinning, and splashing one Toon Cannon Soldier or one Toon Gemini Elf will...
Dark Magician Knight (DARK/Warrior/7/2500/2100) This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except by the effect of "Knight's Title". If this card is Special Summoned successfully, select 1 card on the field and destroy it. There are no rulings for Dark Magician Knight. Welcome to CotD, guest authored by me since chaosruler is currently tackling school things. Dark Magician Knight is, in my opinion, a bad version of Dark Magician. Being a nomi that has far less advantages than its required monster (Dark Magician) and a one-time effect that isn't all that great makes me not like this so much. Obviously, it can only be used effectively in a Dark Magician deck, and a Dark Magician deck...
Berserk Dragon Effect Monster (Zombie / DARK / 8 Stars / ATK 3500 / DEF 0) This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except by the effect of "A Deal with Dark Ruler". This card can attack all monsters on your opponent's side of the field once each. Decrease the ATK of this card by 500 points during the End Phase of each of your turns. "¢ "Berserk Dragon" cannot be Normal Summoned or Set, and cannot be Special Summoned EXCEPT by the effect of "A Deal with Dark Ruler". So "Berserk Dragon" cannot be Special Summoned with "Monster Reborn", etc., even if Special Summoned properly first. "¢ If "Berserk Dragon" is removed from play with "Interdimension Matter Transporter", you cannot try to resolve...
UFOroid Effect Monster (Machine / LIGHT / 6 Stars / ATK 1200 / DEF 1200) When this card is destroyed as a result of battle and sent to the Graveyard, you can Special Summon from your Deck 1 Machine-Type monster with an ATK of 1500 or less in face-up Attack Position. Then shuffle your Deck. "¢ If "UFOroid" attacks an Attack Position "Pyramid Turtle", first the turn player decides whether to activate the effect of "UFOroid" or not, and if he does, it will be Chain Link 1. If he doesn't, the opponent has a chance to activate "Pyramid Turtle's" effect and be Chain Link 1. If he does, it is too late for the turn player to decide to activate "UFOroid's" effect. "¢ If you do not choose to Special Summon a Machine, this card's effect will...
Cyber-Stein DARK/µµ/700 ATK/500 DEF [Machine/Effect] Pay 5000 Life Points. Special Summon 1 Fusion Monster from your Fusion Deck to the field in Attack Position. Okay then, I was nearly pistol whipped when I said I was considering running this joker in a deck. What do you all think? I know he's pricey, but he strikes me as a "finishg move" type of monster.
Gyroid Effect Monster (Machine / WIND / 3 Stars / ATK 1000 / DEF 1000) Once per turn, if this card would be destroyed as a result of battle, it is not destroyed. (Damage calculation is applied normally). "¢ You cannot choose when to apply "Gyroid's" effect. If "Gyroid" would be destroyed as a result of battle, its effect is applied (once per turn). "¢ If "Gyroid" is destroyed, and is then Special Summoned again that same turn, the effect is reset and its effect will be activated again if Appropriate. "¢ The effect of "Gyroid" is a Continuous Effect that cannot be chained to. Today's roid is one of the better ones: Gyroid. People will ask: "Why not use Spirit Reaper instead?" I'll answer that question later in this review. This card...
Patroid Effect Monster (Machine / EARTH / 4 Stars / ATK 1200 / DEF 1200) Pick up and look at 1 Set card on your opponent's side of the field, then return it to its original position. You can only activate this effect once per turn, during your Main Phase. "¢ The effect of "Patroid" targets a card. "¢ If "Patroid" is flipped face-down or removed from the field, its effect is reset and you can use it again that turn if you can get it face-up on the field again. Patroid, over all, my 2nd least favorite Roid monster. It has mediocre stats of 1200/1200, and it's effect can be more easily accomplished by Seal of the Ancients or Mind Haxorz. This card has um, essentially no comboes, except the Machine support. This card is a machine, so...
Steam Gyroid Fusion Monster (Machine / EARTH / 6 Stars / ATK 2200 / DEF 1600) "Gyroid" + "Steamroid" "¢ There are no published rulings for "Steam Gyroid". Alright, the sort of blah Steam Gyroid. IT's not a bad fusion, but still, not all that exciting. Overall, I like the art on this card the best. This card comboes with Power Bond, and any other Machine Fusion support that exists. That's about all. Power Bond makes it a nasty 4400 ATK monster, but as with all Power Bond-ed mosnters, a Book of Moon cures that attack boost. This card has Earth Support, and in a pinch can be used for Spiritual Earth Art - Kurogane. It also has Fusion support, Machine support, and can be Metamorphosised into another copy of itself, or Ryu Senshi, or...
Different Dimension Capsule Normal Spell Select 1 card from your Deck and remove it from play face-down. During your 2nd Standby Phase after activation, destroy this card and add the removed card to your hand. "¢ If "Different Dimension Capsule" is destroyed with "Heavy Storm", etc., the card removed from play remains removed from play for the rest of the Duel. "¢ If "Imperial Order" is activated, count the Standby Phases normally for "Different Dimension Capsule". If "Imperial Order" is active during the 2nd Standby Phase, you cannot add the removed card to your hand and "Different Dimension Capsule" stays on the field meaninglessly, and the removed card remains removed from play for the rest of the Duel. "¢ If "Imperial Order" is...
Magical Thorn Continuous Trap When your opponent's card(s) are discarded to the Graveyard, inflict 500 points of direct damage to his/her Life Points for each card that was discarded. I like this card but when it falls into the hands of a beginner and misunderstand what it says it can get annoying. In correct play I like for the most part (when I use it). Bottom Line: It's a good card.
Abyss Soldier Effect Monster (Aqua / WATER / 4 Stars / ATK 1800 / DEF 1300) Discard 1 WATER monster from your hand to the Graveyard. Return 1 card on the field to the owner's hand. You can only use this effect once per turn, during your Main Phase. "¢ [Re: Elemental Mistress Doriado] The effect of "Elemental Mistress Doriado" is even applied while she's in your hand or Graveyard. So you can discard her for the effect of "Abyss Soldier". Or remove her from play while in the Graveyard to Special Summon "Gigantes". To one of my personal favorite cards, Abyss Soldier. This card screams Sinister Serpent + Premature Burial abuse. It's also a 1800 beatstick, if nothing more, and it's 1300 DEF is Tsuku-proof. Now this card comboes obviously...
Newdoria Effect Monster (Fiend / DARK / 4 Stars / ATK 1200 / DEF 800) When this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard as a result of battle, destroy 1 monster on the field. "¢ You can destroy a face-down monster with "Newdoria". Ah, the wonder that is Newdoria. I personally adore this card, because it's extremely versatile. It can be used aggressively to get a 2-for-1 trade (suiciding into a monster with 1200 ATK, rare, but lots of card advantage). This card has great comboes with Creature Swap and, less effectively, Shien's Spy. Since it's a graveyard effect, even if they control it, you get the effect. It's an automatic 1-1, unless a Dark Ruler Ha Des or some other negation/non-battle means kill it. This means your opponent...
Meteorain Normal Trap During this turn, when your monsters attack with an ATK that is higher than the DEF of your opponent's Defense Position monster, inflict the difference as Battle Damage to your opponent's Life Points. "¢ You can activate "Meteorain" during your turn at any point from the Draw Phase to the end of your Battle Phase; you cannot activate it during the Damage Step, Main Phase 2, your End Phase, or your opponent's turn. "¢ "Meteorain"'s effect applies to all your monsters. Monsters that you Summon, Flip Summon, Special Summon, etc. after activating "Meteorain" still get its effect. "¢ When you attack with a monster that has "Meteorain"'s bonus, and you attack a Defense Position "Amazoness Swordswoman", then you will...
Windstorm of Etaqua Normal Trap Change the battle positions of all face-up monsters on your opponent's side of the field. "¢ [Re: Total Defense Shogun] If "Total Defense Shogun" attacks while in Attack Position, and is changed to Defense Position by "Windstorm of Etaqua", his attack resolves as normal because he can attack while in Defense Position. Ah, one of favorite traps, Windstorm of Etaqua. This card makes Scapegoat useless, and is Berserk Gorilla's worst enemy. I personally think this card is great tech, and greatly aids any card with piercing battle damage and wants to attack into the lower of ATK/DEF. This card comboes rather nicely with Ojama Trio, your opponent's Scapegoat, and Meteorain. Meteorain + Windstorm of Etaqua...
Robbin' Goblin Continuous Trap Each time 1 monster on your side of the field inflicts Battle Damage to your opponent's Life Points, your opponent discards 1 random card from their hand. "¢ If you have "Robbin' Goblin" on the field and attack with "Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer" or "The Bistro Butcher" both effects activate simultaneously. Since you control both effects you can choose the order that they go on a Chain, so you can have the opponent draw due to the effect of "The Bistro Butcher" and then discard for the effect of "Robbin' Goblin". "¢ [Re: Amplifier] If the controller of "Jinzo" with "Amplifier" has activated the effects of "Regulation of Tribe", "Spatial Collapse", "Robbin' Goblin", "Robbin' Zombie", "Curse of Darkness"...
Power Bond Normal Spell Send, from your hand or your side of the field to the Graveyard, Fusion Material Monsters that are listed on a Machine-Type Fusion Monster Card, and Special Summon that Fusion Monster from your Fusion Deck. (This Special Summon is treated as a Fusion Summon). Increase the ATK of this Special Summoned Fusion Monster by an amount equal to its original ATK. During the End Phase of this turn, the player who activated this card takes damage equal to the original ATK of the Special Summoned monster. "¢ The ATK bonus for "Power Bond" lasts as long as the Fusion Monster is face-up on the field. If it is flipped face-down or removed from the field, the ATK increase Disappears. "¢ The ATK bonus for "Power Bond" is not...
A different version of Goblin Attack Force, The elite goblins are Fiend type instead of Warrior (shouldn't that be the other way around?), 2200 attack instead of 2300, and 1500 def instead of 0. The extra defense will hopefuly help Goblin Elite Attack Force survive long enough to do another attack Not bad, but it loses all that fun Warrior support Goblin Attack Force had, but gets Fiend support instead... If you use Chorus of Sanctuary, you can up Goblin Elite's defence enough to ensure better survivability I can't honestly say which one is better... I suppose in the end, you could use either depending on what kind of deck you want, Warrior or Fiend.
Cyber Twin Dragon Fusion Monster (Machine / LIGHT / 8 Stars / ATK 2800 / DEF 2100) "Cyber Dragon" + "Cyber Dragon" A Fusion Summon of this card can only be conducted with the above Fusion Material Monsters. This card can attack twice during the same Battle Phase. "¢ You can Special Summon "Cyber Twin Dragon" with "Cyber-Stein" or "Metamorphosis". Ah, Cyber Twin Dragon, the mini of the Cyber Dragon fusions. This dude is a 2800 ATK beatstick with a Double Attack built-in. Very, very sexy card right here. You ever noticed that every Twin-something Fusion is a 2800/2100? Very interesting.... Alright, some comboes. Hmm, bringing this beast out via Cyber-Stein can happen, but there are better choices, like tomorrow's card, for example. If...
