YGO Card Reviews & Tips

This board is for everyone to put in their 2¢ in on cards. Please read the rules before posting.
Cyber Dragon Effect Monster (Machine / LIGHT / 5 Stars / ATK 2100 / DEF 1600) If there is a monster on your opponent's side of the field and there are no monsters on your side of the field, you can Special Summon this card from your hand. "¢ You can only use the effect of "Cyber Dragon" to Special Summon itself during your Main Phase. "¢ The effect of "Cyber Dragon" does not start a chain. "¢ You can negate the Special Summon of "Cyber Dragon" with "Royal Oppression", "Solemn Judgment", or "Horn of Heaven". Well, well, we get to the signature card for CRV, Cyber Dragon. I like this card, but I prefer The Fiend Megacyber myself. Say what you want, The Fiend Megacyber is better in today's format. But anyway, back to Cyber Dragon. I...
Brain Control Normal Spell "Pay 800 Life Points. Select 1 face-up monster on your opponent's side of the field. Take control of the selected card until the End Phase of the turn this card is activated." If the monster targeted by "Brain Control" is flipped face-down later in the turn, it is still returned back to the original controller in the End Phase. You cannot activate "Brain Control" if you already have 5 monsters on your side of the field. [Re: Blindly Loyal Goblin] Your opponent cannot use "Change of Heart", "Snatch Steal", or "Brain Control" on your face-up "Blindly Loyal Goblin". Let's keep New Ban List week rolling with one of the most hyped cards to come down the pike, Brain Control. Thanks in part to the anime...
Dark Mimic LV3 DARK/Fiend/Effect/*** If this card is sent to the Graveyard as a result of battle, the controller of this card draws 1 card from his/her Deck. If this card was Special Summoned by the effect of "Dark Mimic LV1", he/she draws 2 cards instead. ATK/1000 DEF/1000 Rulings: -If you take control of your opponent's "Dark Mimic LV1" with "Snatch Steal", you can send it to the Graveyard during your Standby Phase to Special Summon your "Dark Mimic LV3". -You can use "Level Up!" to send "Dark Mimic LV3" to the Graveyard in order to Special Summon "Dark Mimic LV1" because it is mentioned in "Dark Mimic LV3"'s card text. -If you use "Level Up!" and send "Dark Mimic LV1" to the Graveyard to Special Summon "Dark Mimic...
Goblin Elite Attack Force Effect Monster - EARTH/Fiend 4-Star ATK: 2200, DEF: 1500 "If this card attacks, it is changed to Defense Position at the end of the Battle Phase. This card's battle position cannot be changed until the end of your next turn, except with a card effect." No published rulings. For new ban-list week, today we take a look at a very powerful, very useful monster from CRV. EARTH support is good, Necrofood and other Fiend support is quite nice, and impressive stats to boot. So far so good. Actually, the ATK is what makes it so useful. It stops damn near everything used in today's day and age, save for Jinzo and the Monarchs and a few less common monsters. The only real drawback to this guy is his effect that...
D. D. Survivor (DARK/Warrior/4/1800/200) If this face-up card on your side of the field is removed from play, this card is Special Summoned to the owner's side of the field during the End Phase. Rulings The effect of "D. D. Survivor" activates during the End Phase if "D. D. Survivor" is currently removed from play. It does NOT activate at the moment he is removed from play. You can chain to this effect. You can activate "Divine Wrath" against the effect of "D. D. Survivor" when it activates during the End Phase. In this case, "D. D. Survivor" is not actually Special Summoned. "D. D. Survivor" remains removed from play (its effect...
Today we're offering 2 card reviews. But that's because I didn't get around to it yesterday, so I apologize. Masked Sorcerer Effect Monster - DARK/Spellcaster 4-star ATK: 900, DEF: 1400 "When this card inflicts Battle Damage to your opponent's Life Points, draw 1 card from your Deck." The effect of "Masked Sorcerer" includes Battle Damage caused when it is attacked in Defense Position by a monster with ATK lower than "Masked Sorcerer"'s DEF. Masked Sorcerer has mediocre stats, and an averagely supported type and sub-type. He, of course, has the effect of allowing you to draw or else we wouldn't be mentioning him this week. The effect triggers when your opponent takes battle damage because of him, either offensively or...
Dekoichi the Battlechanted Locomotive (DARK/Machine/4/1400/1000) FLIP: Draw 1 card. If you have face-up "Bokoichi, the Freightening Car" card(s) on your side of the field, draw an additional card for each of them. Rulings The effect of "Dekoichi the Battlechanted Locomotive" will include any of your opponent's "Bokoichi the Freightening Car" that you control on your side of the field. The number of "Bokoichi the Freightening Car" on your side of the field is counted when this card's effect resolves. That means if it is flipped, and the opponent chains "Ring of Destruction" to destroy the only "Bokoichi the Freightening Car" on your side of the field, you only draw 1 card. Hello all...
Des Lacooda EARTH/Zombie/Effect/*** You can flip this card into face-down Defense Position once per turn during your Main Phase. When this card is Flip Summoned, you draw 1 card from your Deck. ATK/500 DEF/600 Rulings: There are no published rulings for Des Lacooda Pushing onward through the mire of Draw Week (which to my dismay does not include Self Destruct Button...), we come to my personal favorite card oout of the lot: Des Lacooda. The man, the mummy, the engine. He's EARTH, so that has a few (read as: two pretty bad) RFP monsters and Giant Rat. Zombie means that Pyramid Turtle and Book of Life are good friends of his (wouldn't you rather get Big V though?), and level 3 means he's morphable into the same horrendous...
Dark Mimic LV1 DARK/Fiend/Effect/* FLIP: Draw 1 card from your deck. Also, during your Standby Phase, send this face-up card to the Graveyard to Special Summon 1 "Dark Mimic LV3" from your hand or Deck. ATK/100 DEF/1000 Rulings: -[Re: Dark Mimic LV3] If "Dark Mimic LV3" is Special Summoned by the effect of "Dark Mimic LV1" and the opponent Summons "Tsukuyomi" to flip "Dark Mimic LV3" face-down and then attacks it, you will only draw 1 card because its effect was reset when it was flipped face-down. -[Re: Dark Mimic LV3] If "Dark Mimic LV3" is Special Summoned by the effect of "Dark Mimic LV1", and is then sent to the Graveyard and revived with "Monster Reborn", you cannot draw 2 cards for "Dark Mimic LV3" because it was...
This day, is meant for the people (like me) who use a WATER-deck. Also, others who'd like to read it are welcome. Granadora: 1900 ATK-beatstick, with a STRANGE look and a STRANGE effect. Granadora IOC-030 Reptile / WATER / Level 4 / 1900 ATK / 1700 DEF / Effect When this monster is Normal Summoned, Flip Summoned or Special Summoned successfully, increase your Life Points by 1000 points. When this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard you take 2000 points of damage. As I already said"¦ It is a strange effect. Like other cards, its effect can be abused. With this card, you can trick it with first doing a Normal or Special Summon to gain 1000 LP, and then flip it face-down, and then Flipsummon it to gain 1000 LP again, and...
Water/Aqua/2/100/100 Effect: When this face-up card on the field is sent to the Graveyard (unless it was attacked while face-down and destroyed as a result of battle), you can draw 1 card from your Deck. Rulings 1. If "Poison Draw Frog" is destroyed by "Acid Trap Hole",you can draw 1 card. 2. When a face-up "Poison Draw Frog" equipped to "Relinquished" is sent to the Graveyard, you can draw 1 card. 3. [Re: Giant Kozaky] Like "Atomic Firefly", "Foxfire", and "Poison Draw Frog", if a face-down "Giant Kozaky" is attacked and destroyed, its effect is not applied. However, if a face-down "Giant Kozaky" is attacked, and is not destroyed by the attack, if "Kozaky" is not face-up on the field, then "Giant Kozaky" is...
Cybernetic Magician Effect Monster (Spellcaster / LIGHT / 6 Stars / ATK 2400 / DEF 1000) Discard 1 card from your hand. The ATK of 1 face-up monster on the field becomes 2000 until the End Phase of this turn. "¢ The effect of "Cybernetic Magician" is an Ignition Effect that targets a monster. "¢ Since "Cybernetic Magician" makes the ATK "become" 2000, that is the new value. Even if the monster was equipped with an Equip Spell Card, the ATK is 2000 and is not adjusted, even if the Equip Spell Card is destroyed. (However, if equipped after the effect of "Cybernetic Magician" resolves, the ATK will be adjusted from the new level of 2000 points.) "¢ If a monster is getting an ATK adjustment because of a Field Spell Card, and you use the...
Hello guys/girls (don't know or there are girls on this forum, but"¦ just in case), sorry to keep you waiting. The last 3 days I catched a cold, and I didn't want to risk getting even worse with my health. Now, as promised: the next card, aka Command Knight. The Warrior-fanatics among us like this card. And it has a good reason: it has a nice effect and a nice ATK/DEF. Oh! Almost forgot to tell about that. Command Knight CT-EN003 / DB2-EN114 Warrior / FIRE / Level 4 / 1200 ATK / 1900 DEF / Effect As long as at least 1 other monster exists on your side of the field, your opponent cannot select this card as an attack target. Also, as long as this card remains face-up on the field, increase the ATK of all your Warrior-Type...
Airknight Parshath Effect Monster - LIGHT/Fairy ATK: 1900, DEF: 1400 5 Star "When this card attacks with an ATK that is higher than the DEF of a Defense Position monster, inflict the difference as Battle Damage to your opponent's Life Points. When this card inflicts Battle Damage to your opponent's Life Points, draw 1 card from your Deck." Rulings - click and see for yourself This week we're going to take a look at cards that allow you to draw - something that seems to be all the rave now because of the absence of Pot and Graceful. Airknight is the granddady of them all. This card has always been good. In chaos decks, your tributes were BLS, Jinzo, and this. It was a good card before the Oct 1st ban list; it's possibly even...
Well, here we are with another card review - only this will be a bit different. I'm sure some of you have noticed this section has lacked Team CotD's authority in here lately, and I take part of the blame for that. I didn't step in during Kitty Week (sorry, but didn't have in interest in reviewing a card for a specific deck) and we didn't come up with anything for this week, so I've taken it upon myself to do something different today. Without further ado, I bring you.... Jathro's Public Service for September 29th in Regards to the October 1, 2005 Ban List I've been hearing lately from people something along the lines of "I'm gonna start using (fill in the blank with a card that lets you draw) since I can't use Pot of Greed...
Today it is already the third Post-ban day. Or to call it today: Moisture Creature-day! Much people have heard of this card. But even with that fact"¦ it is a bit underused. Maybe because not that much people play LIGHT-decks? Don't know actually"¦. Now, the facts: Moisture Creature PGD-013 Fairy / LIGHT / Level 9 / 2800 ATK / 2900 DEF / Effect Personally, I like his effect the most: If you Tribute Summon this monster by Tributing 3 monsters on the field, destroy all Spell and Trap Cards on your opponent's side of the field. What does this mean? You can just tribute 2 monsters for it (and you won't get it's effect), or you can Tribute 3 monsters for it, and activate the build-in "Harpies Feather Duster". Now, such a card...
Hello my friends, As you all maybe know, yesterday I spoke about Chaos Sorcerer. And I also promised to speak about the 4 Ultimate Insects today. So I will do now.. Ultimate Insect LV1 SOD-EN005 Insect / WIND / Level 1 / 0 ATK / 0 DEF / Effect "As long as this card remains face-up on your side of the field, it is unaffected by any Spell Cards. During your Standby Phase, send this face-up card to the Graveyard to Special Summon 1 "Ultimate Insect LV3" from your hand or Deck. (You cannot activate this effect the turn this card is Normal Summoned, Special Summoned, or flipped face-up.)" Rulings: 1) The "you" in "on your side of the field" is the current controller's field, so as long as "Ultimate Insect LV1" is face-up, it is always...
Hello all. Next week I planned to make a Post-ban "˜celebration'. I will review total 11 cards, in 7 days, cards that aren't used that much and/or are underrated. Today I will start with Chaos Necromancer, followed by a review of the Ultimate Insect's tomorrow. Thursday I will review Arsenal Bug, on Friday followed by the Command Knight. Saturday is the day of Granadora, while Sunday will be the day of the Royal Keeper. At Monday, the last day: a combined review, of the Sorcerer of Dark Magic and Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8 for total field control. Chaos Necromancer IOC-017 Monster: Fiend, Dark, Level 1, 0 ATK, 0 DEF, Continuous Effect "The ATK of this card becomes the number of Monster Cards in your Graveyard x 300 points"...
Giant Trunade (Spell Card) Return all Spell and Trap Cards on the field to the respective owners' hands. [Re: Autonomous Action Unit] When "Autonomous Action Unit" is returned to the hand (with "Giant Trunade", etc.), the equipped monster is destroyed. [Re: Different Dimension Gate] When "Different Dimension Gate" is removed from the field, but not destroyed, because of "Giant Trunade" or "Emergency Provisions", the removed monsters cannot be returned to play. [Re: Embodiment of Apophis] If "Embodiment of Apophis" is a monster, "Giant Trunade" will still return it to the owner's hand. [Re: Fusion Sword Murasame Blade] This card can be returned to the owner's hand by the effect of "Giant Trunade" or 'Tornado Bird". [Re...
Des Wombat EARTH/Beast/*** As long as this card remains face-up on the field, any damage by a card effect to the controller of this card becomes 0. ATK/1600 DEF/300 Rulings -"Des Wombat" even protects you against damage from your own card effects, like "Dark Snake Syndrome" or "Ring of Destruction". -"Des Wombat" even protects you against card effects where the damage is undecided at activation, like "Dice Jar". -"Des Wombat" will protect you against the effect damage of "Graverobber". -If your only "Des Wombat" is destroyed by "Judgment of Anubis" or "Ring of Destruction", it is no longer on the field so it will not protect you against the damage from these card effects. -[Re: Power Bond] You can prevent the damage from...
