YGO Card Reviews & Tips

This board is for everyone to put in their 2¢ in on cards. Please read the rules before posting.
I figured this card needed a look before the April 1st ban: Uses: 1) Mirage of Nightmare 2) Magical Scientist (send the monsters taken by TER for no life point loss) 3) Anti-Heavy Storm 4) Free monster by sending a previously actiavted Premature Burial and more i give it a 3.75 out of 5, if the sending wasn't a cost, it would be even better -chaosruler
Primal Seed Normal Spell You can only activate this card when there is a "Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning" or "Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End" on the field. Add 2 of your cards that are removed from play to your hand. Just to knock out the down side of this card first. With "Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End" banned and likely to stay that way, this card can only work with 1 other Restricted card on the field. So yes it is a bit situational. To help though, it doesn't matter WHICH side of the field "Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning" is on so if your opponent has him out on the field, well it's time to go to work. :) "Primal Seed" is one of the few cards left in the game that you can use...
D. D. Scout Plane Effect Monster (Machine / DARK / 2 Stars / ATK 800 / DEF 1200) If this card is removed from play, Special Summon this card in face-up Attack Position on your side of the field during the End Phase of this turn. As of now (though this will change in the "The Lost Millennium" set I believe) this is the only monster that can return from out of play on its own. Being a DARK, this card is practically a staple for "Strike Ninja" themed decks, not to mention just working well in a standard Chaos themed deck where you need to remove LIGHT/DARK combos. Other than that, there's nor much to say about the card. Its stats aren't that great but you usually won't be using it for for its stats. "D. D. Scout Plane" though is...
Dimension Distortion Normal Spell You can only activate this card when there are no cards in your Graveyard. Select 1 monster that is removed from play and Special Summon it on your side of the field. This card is... well... with "Fiber Jar" back to being banned real soon... you will almost never see a condition where you can activate this card. Granted, the effect is useful, especially after a "Fiber Jar" flip but 99+% of the time this would be a very dead draw. But if you're looking for another way to get removed cards back onto the field or your hand, here's another (albeit weak) option... Tomorrow... the best one of all...
Miracle Dig Normal Spell If 5 or more of your monsters have been removed from play, return 3 of them to the Graveyard. This is the "Backup Soldier" of "removed from play". Personally, about the only thing this card is useful for is trying to return Exodia pieces that your opponent removed back to the Graveyard so you can find other ways of getting them back to your hand. Honestly, I can't see this card being worth the effort. Though it requires another card on the field, "Primal Seed" is far superior to this. "Miracle Dig" only works with monsters and not cards in general. And with "Fiber Jar" banned once again, you lose that sense of recursion so removed from play just becomes an extra graveyard once your graveyard resources are...
This card has just been released in the Asia part and I am seriously considering place it in my deck. YR1-JP001 DARK KING DRAGON VANDALGION Dark/Dragon/8/2800/2500 If you negated the activation of a card your opponent controls by a Counter Trap, you can Special Summon this card from your hand. If this card is successfully Special Summoned in this way, activate one of the following effects based on the type of the negated card. - Magic: Do 1500 points of damage to your opponent's Life. - Trap: Choose 1 card on your opponent's Field and destroy it. - Effect Monster: Choose 1 Monster from your Cemetery and Special Summon it to your Field. ULTRA RARE However I do not have a wide list of Counter-trap to choose from as I...
Reload Quick-Play Spell Add your hand to your Deck and shuffle it. Then draw the same number of cards that you added to your Deck. An alternative to "Card Destruction" for when you don't want to lose the cards in your hand, but you want another crack at trying to get the card you're looking for. It's also useful for when your opponent knows your hand and you want to change over what you have. The artwork is rather sweet as well. Short review as it's purpose is pretty straight forward. Fairly useful in most decks early on when you have a fair number of cards in your hand, but not the one you need.
Dimension Fusion Normal Spell Pay 2000 Life Points. Both players Special Summon as many of their monsters as possible that have been removed from play. There's 1 reason only to run this over "Return from the Different Dimension". Well, 2 actually. The first is the fact that the monsters summoned this way stay on the field permanently. So if your opponent springs a "Waboku" on you, you don't feel like you wasted half your life-points for nothing. Second, it works with "Spell Economics" so you won't have to pay anything for using this card. This comes in handy with creating an OTK combo with the card (yes, the new Advanced format did not remove all OTKs and it can be a FTK though grAnted, you'd need 5 cards to pull it off in which...
DNA Surgery PSV-026 Continuous Trap When you activate this card, declare 1 Type of monster. As long as this card remains face-up on the field, all face-up monsters become the Type you declared. Ahhhh, DNA Surgery, how do I love thee, let me count the ways: 1) Kinetic Soldier - think about it 2) Ryu Kokki - same as above 3) Getsu Fuhma - same as above 4) Insect Barrier - classics are still nice 5) Marauding Captain - field lock 6) Fairy King Truesdale - SHUT UP! IT WORKS 7) Manticore of Darkness - what Beasts? I don't see any Beasts 8) Beast Soul Swap - fun 9) Limiter Removal - what Machines? 10) Dragon Capture Jar - TDS deck 11) Command Knight - power boost from hell 12) King Dragun - protection for all 13) Tribe-Infecting Virus -...
Inferno Fire Blast; SOD-042 Spell Card Select 1 face-up "Red-Eyes B. Dragon" on your side of the field to activate this card. Inflict damage to your opponent's Life Points equal to the original ATK of the selected "Red-Eyes B. Dragon". "Red-Eyes B. Dragon" cannot attack during the turn you use this card. When I got a SOD Display quite some while ago, I wondered whether I would pull a Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV 8 or Armed Dragon LV 7 or maybe Mystic Swordsman LV 4. I pulled Inferno Fire Blast   . It's effect, what to do and what does happen before, while and after using this card, a conclusion. I. Blasting for Beginners. Don't know why they just didn't write "inflict 2400 points of effect damage", at least I...
Return from the Different Dimension Normal Trap Pay half of your Life Points. Special Summon as many of your monsters as possible that have been removed from play on your side of the field. During the End Phase, remove from play all monsters that were Special Summoned by this effect. Perhaps one of the best "surprise" cards in the game. While half your life points can be costly early on, in the late game it's a small payment. Also this has 2 edges over "Dimension Fusion" in that you're always guarenteed to be able to pay "half" compared to 2000 life points. Also, you are the only one who gets the effect. With many abilities out there that can remove your monsters from play, this card works great as a 1 shot deal to bring them...
Big Shield Gardna Level 4 Earth/Warrior ATK: 100 DEF: 2600 Negate the activation of a Spell Card that designates this 1 face-down monster. At that time, flip this card into face-up Defense Position. If this card is attacked, change the Battle Position of this card to Attack Position at the end of the Damage Step. Pros: * Negates Magic/Spell card that designates it as a target whilst face- down. * 2600 DEF making it rather hard to destroy for most monsters (no Level 4 monster can destroy this single-handedly) Cons: * Switches to Attack Position after being attacked leaving it and ultimately your Life Points open to attack
The Fiend Megacyber; PSV-100, TP4-005, DB1-203 Type: Warrior Attribute: DARK Level: 6 ATK: 2200 DEF: 1200 Effect:You can Special Summon this card from your hand if your opponent has at least 2 more monsters on the field than you do. Ok, a guy with 'fiend' in name and Warrior as type. At first a look at his obvious stats and effect usage, then a little more complex look at certain situations and finally other comparable monsters plus a conclusion. I. The Obvious His effect allows you to special summon him from your hand without tribute when your opponent has at least 2 more monsters than you on the field. After you did so, he'll only have one more at most. As this summon is a special summon, you can further normal summon or...
Does anyone have or know where I can get a list that breaks out cards by what they do? For example, they might list all monsters that are searchers, or all cards that boost life points, etc. This would make deck construction considerably easier (especially for those of us who have not memorized every single card in the game.)
Poison of the Old Man Quick-Play Spell Select and activate 1 of the following effects: "¢ Increase your Life Points by 1200 points. "¢ Inflict 800 points of Direct Damage to your opponent's Life Points. As we continue alone this week's theme, we have a bit of an underrated card here that's quite flexible for your situation. A Life Point gain of 1200 is the highest non-variable effect while the 800 damage is among the most damaging non-variable effects. So this card can save you or provide the extra damage you need for a quick kill. It also works great in Sudden Death when the 1st change of life points determines the winner. If you run either life point gaining/damaging cards in your deck, this card should be the first one you put in.
Monster Reborn Normal Spell Select 1 monster from either you or your opponent's Graveyard. Special Summon the selected monster on your side of the field. The first and still the best way to bring a monster back from the Graveyard to the field. No cost needed to activate, no forced way to place the card, no chance for your opponent to bring something back as well. You activate and bring back a monster. On top of all that, it has the added perk of letting you pick one from your graveyard or your opponent's. Like "Pot of Greed", this card was a true staple back in the day and if comes off the banned list, expect it to go back into everyone's deck. There is no downside involving this spell card.
as you can see, my favorite card is guardian angel joan. the card reads: When this card destroys a monster and sends it to the Graveyard as a result of battle, increase your Life Points by an amount equal to the original ATK of the destroyed monster. this is the card that i love. it is a great tool to increase your lifepoints, especially if you equip her with something like mav. nuzzler, or another equip card. thanks for looking.
The Big March of Animals Quick-Play Spell Until the End Phase, increase the ATK of all face-up Beast-Type monsters on your side of the field by 200 points for each Beast-Type monster on your side of the field. Well, since everyone jumped the gun and started reviewing the "good" cards from the new set, I opted to go for another card from "Flaming Eternity" that fits this week's theme. For starters, it has the ability to be activated during the Damage Step which is a nice bonus. Unfortunately, rare is the time when you'll have a lot of "Beast-Type" monsters on the field (unless you have Scapegoat active, though you're not going to want to attack with them). "Rush Recklessly", while being just a single target, more times than now...
Dark Hole Normal Spell Destroy all monsters on the field. We're taking a step back this week to view some old favorites we may either not have played with for awhile or are glad we haven't seen them for awhile. First up, "Dark Hole". It's not as unbalanced as "Raigeki" in that it simply destroys all monsters on the field, but if this card becomes unbanned, expect most people to put it back into their decks. This card is a momentum changer. It's useful if you are down and want to clear off the field very quickly so you can have an edge. It's useful if you want to sent your own monster to the Graveyard. Also, while it may not be as flexible as "Torrential Tribute" as far as activation, you can use it on your turn, then summon...
I say this was one of the most underestimated cards in the traditional format but with the new format it has lost its edge against things such as CED, RoD, and scientist. There are now more combos and more to look out for now instead of RoD and scientist (at least there isn't CED allowed -.-) even though they are played frequently. In earleir decks all you had to worry about was RoD and a catapult-Scientist combo now there are thigns such as Machine beatdowns coming back and the Barrel has lost its useage.
