I was a bit dubious about calling Matthew Corbett a Fairy, but Warrior didn't sound right, and I didn't think any other types suited him as much.

Hmm..........Strange
The WYSIWYG Editor is a little wiggy due to the particular skin we use, which is a tiled image. It especially doesn't react well when pasting something over from Word. One way to resolve this, is to go to your Options Menu and switch to one of the less advance editors. Of course, this means you'll have to insert the tags manually or use the buttons more often, but after wrestling with the thing for over a year, I finally switched over cause it was actually less trouble to do so. I switch back every now again just to take advantage of the image pasting, but for the most part, I keep it off.

If you go to your options and turn it off, and then go to edit your post, you'll see exactly why the spaces keep reinserting. The editor is making room for all kinds of unnecessary tags that pasted over from Word.
